Harness Racing New Zealand have announced that they will no longer be paying for the replacement of driver’s helmets.

This applies to helmets that have been deemed by the RIU, to be either outside the permitted used by date, or damaged.

In fact, there have been few instances of this happening, however it has raised suggestions of the instigation of a form of insurance through HRNZ for equipment that is damaged in an accident, and also a way of compensating trainers in full for sulkies that are worth far more than the current Sulky Fund limit of $2k.

These matters will be raised by the Association in upcoming discussions with HRNZ officials.
